Technology

Technology can be seen as a big distraction in class, but I consider it a healthy one when it is used for educational purposes. The devices I would allow in my classroom are smart boards, laptops, tablets, and phones. When it comes to technology in classrooms it is important to go over rules, I will inform my students of the consequences they will deal with if they are using these devices in an improper manner, and they will know that devices should only be seen when I say they are allowed and for educational purposes only. 

I will utilize technology in my classroom by using digital games and books, videos, polls, audio podcasts, and digital art. Students can use technology to create powerpoints or shareable documents, which can later be displayed on a smart board for presentation. 

Digital platforms can assist me in getting my students engaged or keeping them on task. I plan on using class dojo, class dojo is a point system that creates a character for students. Parents are also included in the class dojo, they can watch their children gain positive points or see why their child earned a negative point. This pointing system can be used to reward students with end-of-the-week treats that inspire the children to do well so they will earn rewards. 

I will also utilize technology in the classroom by showing educational videos or movies. I can prepare a movie day and have my students gather around to watch a history video, a play, virtual field trips, and scientific experiments. Students who learn visually or audibly can take a lot from watching or listening to these films. I can create discussions or questions about what my students watch, and we can come together and share our ideas. Here is a video that my class and I can learn from and discuss.

The devices that the students use can be used for creating documents, power points, tutorials, and educational gaming. The devices can be used individually or in groups of two. Students can complete work assignments through the canvas, email me for extra help, or critique their work.
